Covering up vitiligo
Micropigmentation changes the lives of people with vitiligo. It gives the illusion of healthy, naturally coloured skin. No other treatment can restore your skin to its pre-disease appearance as well.
MedicoDerm, present in Belgium and Spain, specializes in super-realistic micropigmentation to fade vitiligo.
What are the solutions to hide vitiligo?
Vitiligo (or leukoderma) is an autoimmune disease that causes a lack of melanin, which results in patches of depigmentation on the skin. These areas, white and more or less extensive, appear mainly on the face, extremities and joints, but can develop anywhere else on the body.
Even today, the causes of vitiligo remain subject to debate and no treatment intended to strengthen the melanocytes brings complete satisfaction. This is why skin depigmentation is one of the most commonly recommended treatments.
The principle is to pigment the affected areas with a colour close to that of healthy skin. This color will never be perfectly identical, because your skin tans and evolves according to the season, but the vitiligo will become almost imperceptible.
Three conditions for micropigmentation to work
The micropigmentation is the most effective treatment for removing vitiligo spots, provided these three conditions are met.
Vitiligo stabilization
Vitiligo must absolutely be stabilized before performing skin pigmentation treatment. If vitiligo continues to develop, there is a risk of a self-defence reaction, which will expand the affected area.
An awakening of vitiligo is always possible one day or another, but this does not call into question the intervention of dermo pigmentation, because the pigments fade after more or less 2 years (depending on the areas and the patients). A retouch can, therefore, cover the new areas.
The extent of vitiligo
If the depigmented area is greater than the intact skin, the intervention loses its meaning. The goal should be realistic.
Areas that may be pigmented
Certain areas such as the face and décolleté give very good results over time. Cosmetic micropigmentation is even the only option for lips and mouth, because no other treatment will work.
On the other hand, the hands and feet are too exposed and have skin that renews itself too quickly. The pigments will not be able to last long enough.

How does vitiligo micropigmentation happen?
Any dermo pigmentation procedure takes place according to an intervention protocol that allows us to offer you the technique best suited for your skin.
First consultation
The dermopigmentist sees you in the first consultation to discover the areas to be treated, propose a schedule of interventions and pigment colours.
Dermo pigmentation Sessions
The treatment systematically takes place in a minimum of two sessions. This progressive care allows you to respect your skin and to obtain an extremely natural result.
Experienced dermopigmentists
MedicoDerm is also one of the most reputable micropigmentation training centers in Europe. Our dermopigmentists master all micropigmentation techniques and have an in-depth knowledge of pigments.
After care treatments
Appropriate care is to be followed at home after the session. It is important to follow these guidelines to get the best results.
The after care instructions after vitiligo micropigmentation are:
- No swimming pool, hammam, or sauna for 1 week
- No sun or solarium on the pigmented area for 1 week
- Do not tear small desquamations (peeled skin)
- Apply a healing cream three times a day for 1 week
